Cuerpos Voluminosos y Viejos, 2005–2007

These flesh-toned photographs bring together the voluminous bodies of Danza Voluminosa and the older body of director Juan Miguel Mas' contemporary dance teacher, Lorna Burdsdall. They rely heavily on the weight of flesh, its texture and color within a tightly cropped frame emphasizing either their proximity to another body or their aloneness. Most of the bodies in the photographs are not identified with a face. The identity of the person is not the theme but rather encouraging the viewer to imagine living in the body or seeing large bodies and older bodies in a different possibility, for example, as beautiful and desirous and loving.

Each print is 35 x 24", pigmented ink on cotton rag paper, signed on verso, edition of 6, series of 10 images.
